Definitely interested! Although I'm in no hurry, the new 203 player will probably replace my 103 with Vanity HD some time in the future.
192/24 output is good enough. Don't really see another option when using spdif/aes outputs. My current DACs don't support those formats anyway.
I prefer the flexibility Oppo + Vanity HD over a multichannel pre-processor so I can use my own DACs. Depends on what you have of course, but a good stereo DAC is probably better than multichannel pre-pro with support for formats higher than 192/24.
For me volume control on the Vanity is not really necessary. Volume is best done analog in my opinion. But it would be convenient for those running multi channel I guess.
I often change my volume of my fronts 2 channels when I listen stereo. But when I watch a movie it usually at max volume. Therefore I don't change the volume of the surrounds / LFE very often. I can manage without synchronised volume over my DACs.

Agree with ringo. i2S would be a great upgrade. Would this allow for higher resolution transfer of both PCM and DSD?
FWIW, I am a multi-channel guy and control volume with a pre-amp following 3 x Gustard X20Pro dacs.
Pavel, thanks for taking our inputs!

Thanks guys for your suggestions. Digital volume is a bit tricky. Some people find it useful, some people hate it. It does reduce dynamic range of a DA converter, but I can see it useful in multichannel systems with separate stereo DACs without volume synchronization. The point is, it won't be too much effort for us to implement it into the new board and the control signals in the OPPO are already there. The same applies to the digital filters. The new AKM DAC used in the UDP-203 has several digital filters which the user can select from the menu. We can hook the control signals to do the same thing on the VanityHD board - select the filter from the menu. How cool is that?

Pavel

Really interested in the Vanity 203 HD. Any idea as to when it will be available?
IMO 192/24 spdif would be sufficient and the digital filter integration idea sounds like a really good one.
Thx,

Very cool!
Wonderful news for me

Any other general differences / improvements in 203 vs old 103 soundwise? Jitter, etc?

+1 interested.
I have a lot of money invested in the Vanity: The Trinnov + Vanity AES + custom cable + HDMI Video Delay Box + Oppo.
I have lip sync issues, but mostly due to the Trinnov downstream.
Anyway, there is the speaker distance delay. With 16ms a frame in 60fps, if you are 16 feet back you are already an entire pic/frame behind.
Normally the A/V source like a PrePro I am guessing reclocks both the A/V even taking into account distance delays. What would be best is if you reclock the video with the audio. Um... this is a Blu Ray player afterall...
My total delay, as per the attached pic is 40ms. Trinnov provides it's delay in ms & frame rates. I am 2+ frames delayed with just the Trinnov + distance.
Incidentally, if you do implement a clock out, which I hope you do so I can sync 3 stereo DAC's, it will not be correct off the assembly line unless you reclock with the video.
Moreover, I googled and spoke with many professionals. This Roland device (vc-1-dl) is the only HDMI video delay device in existence. It does not mention 4k support. I happen to not need 4k at this time. If you do not reclock the video there will be no way in this space time continuum to fix 4K with the Vanity downstream. Not saying the Vanity delay is a big deal by itself. Just saying if one wants to be correct.
I just ordered the Roland device. I plan on installing it next week. The Roland delays are by frame. So yes I have to manually "dial" in the delay when switching between 60fps vs 24.

Can the Vanity203HD has a clock signal input?

Hi JunTIAN,
Sorry, it cannot (or it can but with no purpose). The VanityHD has to lock its clock system to the OPPO in order to output bit accurate data without sample rate conversion. It might be possible to output the master or sampling clock so you can clock lock a downstream device.

Pavel

Would it be possible to output more than 8 channels, if i2s output is used?
Would be nice to be able to get out all channels from Dolby Atmos and DTS(x).
