Maximum Bitrate - 48 or 96 kbps?

Post by welwynnick »

Hi All,

I've been doing Oppo BDP mods for many years, so Audiopraise have long been on my radar, but I only found out about the VanityPRO this morning, and it's been an exciting time. I'm frustrated with the poor sound quality from every multi channel AV receiver or processor, even the expensive ones. It seems that any device that accepts audio over HDMI is compromised.

I've been looking at ways to take multi-channel digital audio out from a receiver or processor without HDMI, and use offboard D to A conversion in a multi-channel audio interface, as used for recording studio monitoring. I found several options in this this AVForums thread.

In particular, I'd like to use 8 AES(EBU) channels into an Okto DAC8, though I'm pleased to see that the VanityPRO now has a USB option that I presume will work with a Topping DM7 (or the DAC8).

I have a question about data rate, and I haven't been able to find any answers. Many of the options limit digital audio output to 24 bit / 48 kbps. Although a lot of Blurays have lossless 24/48 soundtracks, there's still a lot of multi channel audio out there at 96 and 192 kbps, and I'd like to take advantage of that.

Can anyone tell me if the VanityPRO can output higher bitrates?

Many thanks,

Nick

I assume you meant kHz and not Kbs. If so, then yes, you can route 192kHz through the Vanity Pro.

Thank you.
I take your point about kHz - that is what I normally use, but I noticed many people round here tended to use kbps so I was trying to blend in.
Does the VanityPRO still output 96 or 192 kHz even when the content is DRM / HDCP protected?
Cheers,

Hi Nick,
Thank you for your questions. Allow me to add a note to the USB output module first. The USB interface implemented is a USB Audio device type, not host. Therefore you can hook it up to a host such as a PC for room processing etc. but not to another device such as DM7 directly. The VanityPRO can of course extract high resolution audio up to 8ch @ 192kHz and 24bits as well as 6ch of DSD64. The trick is to have the player setup correctly, so it plays the correct audio chapter (BD) and decoding into LPCM (in case of compressed formats used such as DTS HD MA).
Best Regards,
Pavel

Hi Pavel,
Thank you for the very useful reply.
It would be no problem to use the AES/EBU outputs instead.
